Jim Kendros, with his charismatic
approach to the art of lecturing, offers a varied menu of programs to
Cultural Centers, Libraries and Senior Centers. He is a specialist in
Baroque and Pre-Classical music, as well as performance practices. As a
music researcher, Jim has a penchant for the Bach family, especially the
sons of J.S. Bach. He is also devoted to bringing the music of Clara
Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn into the awareness of the
music-appreciating public.
Jim is also a professional composer with over 170 works to his credit.
His works range from solo piano to works for chamber ensembles,
orchestral music and music for the choir. His civic works include the
Mount Prospect Overture (1992), Dance of Destiny (for Des
Plaines, 1996) and Circle of Knowledge (for the North Suburban
Library System, 1997).
Jim's fascination with the Nyckelharpa has taken him into the realms of
performing Baroque and ethnic music on this unique instrument. His
Concerto for Nyckelharpa and Orchestra is most likely the first concerto
written for the instrument.
Most recently, Jim's Wheaton Sinfonia for Viola Ensemble was premiered
by members of the Houston Symphony Orchestra. "The viola has always
fascinated me," says Jim "and I've always felt the instrument to be a
wonderful voice in expressing music which is haunting as well as
passionate." Jim composed the Sinfonia as a portrait of his early years
of growing up, showcasing the bittersweet joys and sorrows of childhood
and early adulthood.
Jim is a faculty member of Oakton Community College and is a frequent
guest speaker on the North Suburban Library Cable Channel.
