The Three Most Beautiful Melodies in the Entire Russian Repertoire?

Edisher Savitski, Piano

Program Selections
Tchaikovsky

Overture to Romeo and Juliet

Taneyev
Prelude to The Oresteia, op. 6

Rachmaninov
Piano Concerto No. 2
in C minor, op. 18

These may very well be the most beautiful melodies in the Russian repertoire. And whereas these great romantic themes of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov need no introduction, the inclusion of Sergei Taneyev may raise a few eyebrows.

He was Tchaikovsky’s prize pupil and Rachmaninov’s teacher, and thus shares their dramatic and colorful style. Taneyev’s closing theme from The Oresteia surely ranks among the most beautiful melodies of all time; we encourage you to come and revel in the experience!

The dynamic pianist Edisher Savitski, protegé of the distinguished virtuoso Alexander Toradze, returns to our stage for the immortal Piano Concerto No. 2 of Rachmaninov

There will be a free pre-concert lecture given by our popular lecturer, Jim Kendros, starting at 2:30 pm.
