Here is a rare opportunity to experience the classical style in an authentic, “old-world” manner. Jim Kendros, the NSO’s popular pre-concert speaker and well-known performer, will take us back through time to the golden age of the hurdy-gurdy, an exotic string instrument whose unique sounds captivated aristocrats and country folk alike. Even Haydn and Mozart joined the fun and wrote for this distinctive instrument!

Haydn’s concerto brilliantly combines the rustic folk music of the Austrian countryside with that of the classical orchestra. From there, Mozart’s magnificent Posthorn Serenade transports us to the elegant gardens and palaces of Vienna, with its enchanting array of minuets, fanfares and idyllic pastorales.

There will be a free pre-concert lecture given by our popular lecturer, Jim Kendros, starting at 2:30 pm.
