Enriching and building the audiences of today and the future...

Bringing Music to Your Community

The Northbrook Symphony Orchestra outreach program provides educational enrichment and performances of classical music to a variety of venues. Our expanding audiences include school-aged children, children with special needs, senior groups, nursing homes, health care and Alzheimer’s facilities. The NSO outreach program also participates in a variety of other events, including community celebrations, ground-breaking ceremonies and other social occasions.

We are constantly making efforts to bring music to those who may not get the opportunity to hear it otherwise. Another one of our goals is to create interest in music at an early age. With your continued support we can make this a reality for even more people.

The Northbrook Symphony Youth Enrichment Program

On-Stage Pass    Selected middle school students from one or several schools join the orchestra before the general audience arrives to experience first-hand the excitement of the concert day dress rehearsal, sitting on or near the stage and learning from the musicians and NSO Music Director Lawrence Rapchak.

Master Classes   Prior to each Sunday afternoon concert, NSO musicians or special musical guests lead masters classes for strings, voice, or band students. The content of each class is usually coordinated with the music directors of the individual middle schools to enhance each school's curriculum. We encourage the parents of our student guests to sit in and observe.

Great Seats
All students participating in these concert day Students Plus+ programs along with their families receive complimentary tickets for the concert.

NSO in the Schools
For standard musician fees, The Northbrook Symphony will arrange for individual musicians to come out to local schools to conduct clinics or individual instrument sectionals. We also regularly provide smaller ensembles to introduce, explain, and perform all varieties of music for student groups of all ages, including our String Quartet, Woodwind Trio, Brass Quintet and percussion-based MegaBeat.

Student Showcase  As part of its stated mission to help develop and encourage young local musicians, The Northbrook Symphony invites ensembles from area high schools to play during each post-concert reception. The audience and musicians are invited to stay for light refreshments and enjoy listening to young up-and-coming musicians play everything from classical to contemporary to jazz. The musicians receive a small stipend for their performance as well as complimentary tickets to that' day's concert.
