Reflections of the Homeland
According to Chicago Tribune's music critic John von Rhein, Dvorak's fifth symphony contains "enough good tunes to stock a half-dozen Romantic symphonies;" an apt description of one of the great composer's most spirited and joyful works. We are certain that you will agree.
Drawn from the same symphonic cycle that includes the popular Moldau, Smetana's epic
Blainik is based on an ancient Czech legend, and is filled with robust marches and lyrical pastoral interludes.
The concert opens with an exciting new composition by our Composer Fellow Jim Kendros, celebrating the odyssey of a Slovak family as they puruse their dreams in America. This highly expressive work is a moving tribute to the American spirit.
Joining Jim Kendros onstage will be several members of the Glenbrook North Wind Ensemble.
There will be a free pre-concert lecture for concert tciket holders at 2:30 pm given by our popular lecturer, Jim Kendros,"The North Shore's favorite music historian."
